Today we are heading over to Arundel before the International Finals at Goodwood Motor Circuit. We packed the van over lunchtime yesterday and had a team briefing the day before. The car has had some upgrades, mainly the front wheel placement. the brakes have been moved to the back wheels and front wheels moved inwards around 10 cm. This improves our aerodynamics and reduces drag, which allows us to be more power efficient and last longer.
In case you are new to Greenpower events, the aim of the race is to travel as far as possible in 90 minutes. You must use a minimum of 3 drivers and no driver can be in the car for longer than 40 minutes per race. This means we have to switch drivers twice per race. There is an element of strategy to switching drivers as you want the lightest driver in the car last to reduce the battery drain. You also need to time the stop well as the pit lane gets very congested when there are multiple teams switching drivers.
The event has changed slightly this year as the Practice has been changed from 1.5hr to 1hr. This means less warm up time for our drivers but, should give us an earlier departure… which means more time for McDonalds on the way home!
Everyone on the team is very excited and can’t wait to see our competition this year. We would like to wish all the teams competing this year the best of luck and safe travels.
